We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Syed A. Raza as the principal of Al-Amal Academy.

Mr. Raza has been an educator for over 20 years. After earning his Master’s Degree in Religion with a major in Islamic Studies from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, Mr. Raza began his teaching career in Toronto, Ontario. In 2001, he furthered his teaching career by pursuing his Bachelor of Education at the University of Toronto. Mr. Raza has taught in Toronto, Syria, Saudi Arabia and now in Calgary. While teaching at the Calgary Islamic School (CIS) he completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Lethbridge and served as Vice Principal for over 4 years.  

Throughout his teaching career, Mr. Raza has taken on many leadership duties and enjoys the collegial aspect of the profession. He feels honored to be an educator and aims to ensure that students have the opportunity to engage in quality learning towards high achievement. In addition, Mr. Raza strives to guide students to build a strong foundation of faith and beautiful character by first modeling it within himself. 

Mr. Raza is happily married to his wife Shilpa, of 24 years, and together they have five beautiful children: Ibrahim, Hasan, Ahmed, Iman and Hamza. In their spare time, Mr. Raza and his family enjoy camping, reading, playing board games on Saturday nights and just being together. Mr. Raza’s strength comes from his faith and his family. 

Mr. Raza is excited at the prospect of joining his colleagues as a Principal for the Prairie Land School Division and the Al-Amal Education Foundation, and welcomes any new challenges or opportunities this role may provide in ensuring that Al-Amal Academy becomes the best school in Alberta.
